MARICHIWORLD AND YAK WOOL

Wife and husband team, Ritika Mehra and Shaurya Bastola, moved from their stressful lives in England back to their hometown in Himachal Pradesh in the Himalayas, India, to start production of hand-woven textiles. Ritika learned all about weaving from her grandmother, and now, the couple works to preserve the original local craft. The days are spent travelling around visiting sheep, goat and yak shepherds out on the plateau and making purchases of wool and silk, thereby securing the spinning, hand-weaving and dyeing workflow. All shawls are hand-woven on traditional wooden looms. The local name for hand loom is KHADDI. The weavers are called JULAHUS and come from a special clan that are known masters of the unique weaving technique used in the area. Marichiworld's master weaver is Paras Ram.
