Indigo dyed, handwoven Merino Wool Shawl from Himachal Pradesh
Handwoven merino wool makes this shawl feather- light, warm and soft all at the same time. It is traditionally hand-woven in Himachal Pradesh in the Indian Himalayas.
The wool is purchased directly from the shepherds in the mountain districts Kullu and Kanga. All carding, spinning and weaving are done on traditional wooden looms called KHADDI. The weaving technique is unique and is passed down from generation to generation. The weavers belong to their own little clan called Julahus. Dyeing is done in light or dark organic indigo pigments which fix to the fibres and retain their luminosity for a long time.A perfect shawl for year-round use.
